Virginia 5th-year Jasmine Nocentini took .87 off her personal-best time of 56.96, which she swam in prelims to break the pool record, and won the 100 breast by half a body length.
USC’s Kaitlyn Dobler was the first to flip at the 25 wall, with Nocentini .06 behind in 11.93. Nocentini took over the lead at the 50, registering 26.24 at the halfway mark. Dobler was .25 behind, while Mona McSharry of Tennessee was in third (26.58).
Nocentini came home in 14.82-15.03, fending off McSharry who had passed Dobler and was closing in on the leader. McSharry couldn’t match Nocentini’s final 25; she finished in 56.64, just edging Dobler (56.67).
All three moved into the top 5 of all-time performers in the event. Only Lilly King as ever been faster than Nocentini; King holds the American, U.S. Open, and NCAA records with 55.73.
Nocentini swam two years at Florida International before transferring to Northwestern for the 2022-23 season. She ended her senior season at Northwestern early with a shoulder injury at a point when she was the top-ranked swimmer in the Big Ten in the 50 free and 100 breaststroke. Even without swimming at Big Tens or NCAAs, she finished the season ranked 10th in the country in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 50 free.

I don’t know much about yards swimming, but I know being .3 off a King record is pretty special – Congrats.
Can anybody elaborate on whether she can still swim for Italy in Paris; I.e. can she attempt to displace Angiolini at Sette Colli or something; Or are the two named 100br spots (Pilato & Angiolini) effectively locked in now?
If she beats Angiolini’s time at Sette Colli she can get a spot even in the 100 br
(Not to mention there’s still a place in the 50 free)
I think that 100 br spots are locked by Pilato and Angiolini. But maybe she can swim the 4×100 medley relax. In Tokyo 2020 Pilato and Carraro locked the two spots, but a few week later Castiglioni swam the italian record, so italian federation decided to bring Castiglioni only for the relay
The two spots are locked, even if she swam a faster time than Pilato and Angiolini she would not be picked for the individual race; however in such case they might decide to add her for relay purposes only.
Her best shot is in the 50 free, a spot is still available.

Jasmine’s PB coming into the year was 58.23……………..
one year in C’ville…..56.0
I will say that her PB was on her 3rd ever 100 yard breaststroke and was clearly not close to her ceiling. Then she didn’t race the rest of the year after that meet. Probably had the ability of a 57 second breaststroker before starting at UVA and now she’s the second fastest ever.
Even with that caveat I doubted it and YanYan called it back in September.
