Injuries are among the most difficult things to deal with as a swimmer, and having to deal with injuries that happen mid-meet… Well, let’s just say it falls under the category of Not Fun.
In the prelims of the women’s 50 freestyle, UW-La Crosse sophomore Mikayla Beuch came in hard, swimming with intent to win. But something went wrong. When everyone else had cleared the water, Beuch was still in the pool, holding her arm awkwardly and saying she couldn’t get out of the water. The Meet Marshals delayed the start of the next heat for her to swim under a few lane lines and climb out the side.
The end result of her aggressive finish was a dislocated elbow, which Head Coach Charlie King declared would keep her from competing in the remainder of the meet. Her removal prevented her competing on UW-L’s 14th seeded medley relay and they finished 19th this morning. Post prelims, King said she would be going to the hospital.
