Vanderbilt Picks Up U.S. Open Qualifier Emily Constable (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Emily Constable has announced her verbal commitment to Vanderbilt University, beginning in the fall of 2024.

Constable is currently a junior at Westfield High School in Westfield, New Jersey. She also trains and competes year-round with Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA.

I am so excited and honored to commit to Vanderbilt University’s rising swim team and athletic program and to be part of Vanderbilt’s Class of 2028.  Vanderbilt was an obvious choice for me with its combination of top-level academics and its dedication to the success of its student-athletes. Thank you to all who have supported me along the way.  I cannot wait to swim with my new amazing teammates and coaches in Nashville!  ANCHOR DOWN!  ️”

Constable is primarily a breaststroke specialist. She owns a U.S. Open qualifying time in the 100m and 100y breaststroke, in addition to a Winter Juniors cut in the 200y breast. Her 200 IM also improved by over three seconds over the course of the last short course season.

Top SCY Times:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.07
  • 200 breast – 2:16.37
  • 200 IM – 2:09.01

Top LCM Times:

  • 100 breast – 1:12.62
  • 200 breast – 2:43.67
  • 200 IM – 2:41.96

Despite only swimming two long course meets this past summer, Constable recorded personal bests in the 50 breast (32.83) and 100 breast (1:12.62) at the EEX Jeffrey S. Mace Memorial meet in June. Her 100 breaststroke time was just under a three second drop from her previous best which she had set earlier in the month.

As a sophomore, Constable won the 100 breaststroke at the NJSIAA New Jersey Meet of Champions with a 1:02.86. She was also the breaststroke leg of Westfield’s runner-up 200 medley relay, where she split a 28.57.

Vanderbilt placed 12th out of 12 teams at last season’s SEC Championships. Constable is just outside of SEC scoring range, as it took a 1:01.54 to advance to finals in the 100 breaststroke, and a 2:13.36 to advance in the 200. Vanderbilt’s top finisher in the 100 was Faith Knelson, who placed 29th with a 1:02.08. Knelson was also the breaststroker on their 200 medley relay, spitting 28.38.

Knelson continues to lead Vanderbilt’s breaststroke group this season, as she posted a 1:01.61 and 2:14.06 at the Gamecock Invite. Knelson will not be in Nashville when Constable arrives, which leaves freshman Taylor Carey (1:03.68/2:17.06) as the next fastest breaststroker.

Constable is Vanderbilt’s first public commitment for their class of 2028. Their class of 2027 includes IMer Bailey Ratzburg, butterflier Kate Heintz, backstroker Grace Ciaramitaro, IMer Liv Gooding.
