Fred Vergnoux, the head coach of the Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN, or Real Federación Española de Natación) who trains a handful of swimmers, including Mireia Belmonte, at the High Performance Center at Sant Cugat del Vallés in Spain, answered questions on Media Day in Tenerife this week. His swimmers are training at Tenerife Top Training (T3) with the Spanish National Team, which they do every year at this period in the season.
Talking about Belmonte, Vergnoux said, “Of course it’s difficult to maintain this level of expectation and motivation day in and day out, but she is a very hungry athlete who likes to win, and she passes that on to the rest of us.” When asked if anyone knows Belmonte’s limits, he admitted, “How far can she go? It’s not a matter of dates, but a personal project for her. It will depend on her.”
Vergnoux who is French, went on to talk about where the Spanish National Team is in their training right now. “It is a tradition to come to T3 at this time of year, and there’s nothing better because it is a spectacular place, with everything we need at our disposal. We do a lot of high-volume work here, as well as physical preparation, with the goal of preparing for the next European Championships.”
The 2018 LEN European Aquatics Championships will take place in Scotland from August 3-12, 2018.
T3 with Fred… nails 🙂
