KINGSTON, RI – Women’s swimming and diving got off to a dominant start Friday on the first day of the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, Rhode Island winning four out of the five women’s swimming events. The Catamounts set two Tootell Aquatic Center records in the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Catamounts started out strong at the 2022 Harold Anderson Invitational taking home first place and setting a Tootell Aquatic Center record in the 200 freestyle. The combination of Jackie House, Hally Laney, Autumn Bullinger and Mina Poppas finished in a time of 1:36.40, the previous record was 1:36.61.
  • In the third event of the day, the 500 freestyle, the Catamounts swept the top three with Poppas, House and Ella Church, in that order. Poppas tied the Tootell Aquatic Center record with a time of 4:53.56 tying her teammate House from a season ago. House finished in second in a time of 4:57.10, while Church rounded out the top three with a time of 4:57.60.
  • Vermont continued their hot start on day one with Laney taking first in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 2:06.27. Kara Campbell finished in fourth with a time of 2:08.19 and her sister Cailin Campbell finished in sixth with a time of 2:09.23.
  • UVM dominated in the 400 medley relay setting another Tootell Aquatic Center record. Autumn Bullinger, Natalie Schlemmer, Hally Laney and Jackie House worked together to cruise to a finishing time of 3:49.13.
  • Also, in the 400 medley, the combination of Emma Wainwright, Ellie Fazio, Jenny O’Neil and Cailin Campbell finished in fifth in a time of 3:53.76. Leading with the 100 backstroke Wainwright set the first year Catamount program record in the 100 back.

UP NEXT
The Catamounts will continue with the Harold Anderson Invitational tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 19) with the preliminary events beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the finals event starting at 6 p.m. Vermont will compete in the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and backstroke and the 800 freestyle relay. The women’s swimming and diving teams will also compete in the one-meter diving event.
