LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Vermont Catamounts (3-4, 2-1 AE) won 10 individual events and one relay en route to a 191-100 win over the Siena Saints (2-5, 2-1 MAAC) Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The 200 medley relay team of Sarah DohertyCailin CampbellSierra Sexton, and Vivian Nguyen opened the meet with a first place finish after a time of 1:52.30. Nguyen later won the 50 free (25.04) and the 100 free (54.65). Sexton finished second in the 50 free (25.19) and Campbell finished second in the 100 free (54.80).
  • Sophia Smith won the 1000 free with a time of 10:54.87. She also won the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.30.
  • Mina Poppas won the 200 free (1:58.21) and the 500 free (5:16.61). Campbell claimed second in the 200 free (2:00.31).
  • Emily Murphy (229.05), Taylor Nguyen (222.50), and Olenka Duncan (201.45) swept the one-meter board. Murphy (252.46) placed second on the three-meter board.
  • Laura Pringle (1:01.36), Morgan Montgomery (1:01.39), and Doherty (1:01.51) swept the 100 back.
  • Beth Hartog (2:08.77), Montgomery (2:10.28), and Peyton McNulty (2:11.83) swept the top spots in the 200 back.
  • Francesca Pucillo (2:29.43) and Peyton Lienhart (2:35.67) claimed first and second in the 200 breast.
  • Katie Rivers (4:45.77), Montgomery (4:41.27), and Pucillo (4:53.35) swept the 400 IM.

With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to a Vermont charity, bringing the 2020 total to four wins totaling $400. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support, protecting Vermonters since 1828.

UP NEXT
Vermont hosts Binghamton tomorrow morning at Forbush Natatorium for Senior Day presented by the UVM Alumni Association. The senior day meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and the three members of the Class of 2020 will be honored prior to the meet.

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Swimming & Diving (2-5) won three events in its return to the pool Saturday afternoon, taking on Vermont (3-4) at the Siena Swim Center in its first action of the Spring 2020 leg of its season. The Saints fell, 191-100 to the Catamounts in its second of three home meets that it will host this season.

Vermont jetted out to a quick start in the dual meet competition, winning five of the first six events before the first diving break of the day. Junior Shannon Leary took home the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:10.48 for the first Saints’ event win of the day.

Leary was joined by freshman Jessica Shine in winning a swimming event in the pool, with Shine swimming a 1:00.11 in the 100-yard butterfly to take home the top spot. Freshman diver Lydia DeLano set a personal best score during her win in the 3-meter diving competition racking up 252.46 points to best three Vermont divers in the event.

DeLano was one of three Saints who walked away from the meet with a personal best time, with classmates Emma Mauro (1:02.17, 100 free) and Lauren Ostrander (500 free, 5:23.11) also doing so.

Siena’s pairing of Leary, Shine, sophomore Isabel Harms and freshman Rory Kalac took home second place in the 200-yard medley relay (1:52.51), while the group of Shine, Kalac and seniors Rachel Brown and Alyssa Lewis took second in the 200-yard free relay (1:41.94).

Siena will be back in action next Saturday, January 18, when it travels to Milford, CT to take on Sacred Heart at 12:30 PM.
