BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Vermont Catamounts (4-4, 3-1 AE) claimed a 163-137 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats (4-4, 0-1 AE) on Senior Day, presented by the UVM Alumni Association.

Morgan MontgomerySierra Sexton, and Sophia Smith were honored prior to the meet for their contributions to the program over the last four years.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The 200 medley relay team of Sarah DohertyCailin CampbellKira Parker, and Sexton posted a time of 1:51.76 to open the meet with a victory. Sexton later won the 100 free with a time of 54.20. Campbell won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.41.
  • Mina Poppas won the 1000 free with a time of 10:44.99. Beth Hartog finished third with a time of 11:01.07.
  • Kira Parker (59.04) won the 100 back in the day’s fourth event. Montgomery finished second with a time of 1:00.61.
  • Smith (2:13.34) and Katie Rivers (2:13.52) finished in the top two spots in the 200 fly. Rivers also took third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.14.
  • Montgomery (2:08.37), Hartog (2:10.05), and Peyton McNulty (2:11.00) swept the top three spots in the 200 back.
  • Mina Poppas won the 500 free with a time of 5:14.22. Smith finished third with a time of 5:20.16.
  • Emily Murphy finished second on the three-meter board with a score of 238.49. She placed third on the one-meter board with a score of 234.04.
  • The 200 free relay team of Vivian NguyenIsabelle Magbie, Poppas, and Sexton closed the meet with a win after posting a time of 1:38.88.

With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to a Vermont charity, bringing the 2020 total to six wins totaling $600. A special thank you to Vermont Mutual Insurance for their support, protecting Vermonters since 1828.

UP NEXT
Vermont returns to the University of Rhode Island for its final dual meet of the season with the Rams next Saturday (Jan. 18). The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. at Tootell Aquatic Center.

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Binghamton women’s swimming & diving team was defeated 163-137 at Vermont on Sunday morning.

The Bearcats has a pair of double winners against the Catamounts. Senior Sydney Atendido swept both the 100 breast (1:07.54) and 200 breast (2:2922) while junior Sophia Howard won the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 242.62 and 243.90 respectively.

Other individual winners for Binghamton included junior Kaitlyn Smolar in the 200 free (1:56.63), senior Olivia Santos in the 50 free (24.85) and freshman Audrey Pesek in the 100 fly (58.89).

The Catamounts swept first place in both the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

Binghamton women’s team returns home to face New Hampshire on Sunday at 11 a.m.
