BURLINGTON, Vt. – Six Catamounts won eight individual events against the Black Bears Saturday as Vermont took a 160-140 win in its annual Rally Against Cancer meet presented by Inspired Closets.
Vermont improves to 1-3 (1-1 AE) on the season while Maine drops to 0-2 (0-1 AE).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maria Kelly (10:51.28) and Molly Williams (10:59.56) claimed the top two spots in the 1,000 free.
- Sophia Smith (1:56.97) and Cailin Campbell (1:58.68) took the top-two spots in the 200 free. Campbell also finished second in the 100 free (54.46) and third in the 200 IM (2:14.97).
- Freshman Beth Hartog won both the 100 back (59.99) and 200 back (2:08.88). Sarah Doherty took third in the 100 back (29.49) and Peyton McNulty took third in the 200 back (2:12.67).
- Junior Emily Murphy (240.90) finished just behind Maine’s Phil Ann Dixon (241.95) to claim second in the one-meter dive. Murphy won the three-meter dive with a score of 249.15.
- Mina Poppas (5:15.45), Smith (5:20.92), and Molly Williams (5:25.15) swept the podium in the 500 free.
- Vivian Nguyen won both the 200 fly (2.11.37) and the 100 fly (59.31). Katie Rivers finished second, just behind Nguyen, in the 200 fly (2:11.41). Jenny O’Neil took third in the 100 fly (59.84).
MEET NOTES
- With the victory, the Cats Win, Community Wins campaign and Vermont Mutual Insurance Group will donate $100 to Make-A-Wish Vermont, bringing this year’s total to 89 wins and $8,900.
- This afternoon’s win marked the 15th straight season Vermont has beaten America East foe Maine.
