Vermont’s Cowlie, Preston Earn America East Honors

BOSTON – Sophomore Shannon Cowley and senior Maggie Preston swept the America East weekly awards for the Vermont women’s swimming & diving program. Cowley was named the Swimmer of the Week on Tuesday, while Preston won the Diver of the Week award for the fourth time this season.

Northeastern Highlights

Cowley had a strong performance in three individual events against Northeastern on Monday in Burlington. The sophomore won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.60) by five seconds and the 200-yard IM (2:12.30), and was second in the 100 breast in 1:06.67.

Preston continued her standout season on Senior Day against the Huskies by sweeping both diving events for the Catamounts at Forbush Natatorium. She collected 253.12 points in the 3-meter event and 252.74 in the 1-meter.

Vermont (5-3) suffered a tight 155-145 defeat to Northeastern for its first home loss of the season in four meets. The Catamounts are back in action this weekend as they travel to Rhode Island for a 12 p.m. meet against the Rams on Saturday (Jan. 23) at the Tootell Aquatics Center.
