Versatile Bailey Wiegand (2021) Commits to Canisius College

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Bailey Wiegand has decided to stay close to home by committing to Division I Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Wiegand will begin her first college semester this fall, having been a part of the 2021 high school graduating class.

“I choose Canisius College for their reputation, their commitment to the all-around growth of their students and their friendly, approachable and welcoming campus.  I was impressed since my first visit in my junior year of High School.  Everyone that I met from administration, to faculty & to students were so friendly and willing to assist with whatever questions or needs that I had.”

Wiegand is from Kenmore, New York, where she attended Kenmore West High School and was on their varsity swim & dive team for all years of high school. Wiegand also swims club for the Town of Tonawanda Titans.

At the 2021 Niagara Frontier League Girls Swimming & Diving Championship Meet, Wiegand finished with the second-highest NISCA score at the meet at 108. Wiegand went a 1:00.56 in the 100-yard fly, a half-second off her best time, placing fifth. Her efforts paid off as her team finished first at the meet. The win added to Kenmore Swim Team’s undefeated streak in the 2020-2021 season.

Wiegand didn’t stop with varsity swimming all of her years in high school. Weigand also participated in both junior varsity and varsity cheerleading, along with varsity lacrosse. On top of that, she competed as a synchronized swimmer with the Town of Tonawanda Aquettes for four years.

Best Times:

  • 100 free SCY: 55.70
  • 200 free SCY: 2:03.55
  • 100 fly SCY: 59.92
  • 200 fly SCY: 2:15.08
  • 200 IM SCY: 2:12.80
  • 400 IM SCY: 4:40.08

Canisius’ women’s team finished second out of six teams at the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Spring Invitational.

A 59.92 100 fly would put Wiegand second in the event among Canisius’ returning class, within .20 of Grace Van Buren, a sophomore in the 2021-2022 season. With a 2:15.08 200 fly, she would again be second on the team within .05 of current sophomore Lillian McDonnel’s.

It is not likely Wiegand will be on the 200, 400, or 800 free relays. However, she could have a shot in the 400 medley relay as the fly leg.

Wiegand will be joining swimmers Payton Taylor, Ashley Allaire, and Noriah Cook for the class of 2025 at Canisius College.
