Caleb Babb from Jacksonville, Illinois has signed an NLI to swim with the University of Iowa in the fall of 2018.
“I am excited to announce my signing with the University of Iowa. I’m honored to have this opportunity to swim under Coach Long, Coach Malone and the entire Iowa swimming staff, as well as getting to be a part of this awesome team. As soon as I saw the campus at Iowa City, I knew that it was my next home. I am eternally grateful to be a Hawkeye!”
Babb is a senior at Westfair Christian Academy, where he is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. At the 2017 IHSA Boys’ State Swimming and Diving Championships in February, he tied for 10th in the 100 fly (50.93) and placed 14th in the 100 breast in prelims (only 12 move on to finals). Babb will still be 16 when he graduates in May.
Babb swims for PACE Swimming year-round. He has had an outstanding senior season so far, improving his SCY times in the 50/100 free, 100 back, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM. That includes PBs in the 200 breast and 200 IM at 2017 Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West, where he also competed in the 100 back, 100/200 breast, and 100 fly. Similarly, this summer he improved across the board, earning LCM best times in the 40/100 free, 100/200 back, 50/100/200 breast, 50/100 fly, and 200/400 IM.
His best SCY times include:
- 100 breast – 55.76
- 200 breast – 2:06.12
- 100 fly – 50.04
- 100 back – 51.26
- 200 IM – 1:52.91
Babb will join Dolan Craine and Jackson Allmon in the Hawkeyes’ class of 2022.

I have watched Caleb develop over the years into an excellent swimmer. He has a no-nonsense attitude when he’s on deck and in the water. One can see the intense focus he brings every meet. He is going to be a great addition to the Hawkeye swim team.
