Versatile Dylan Dela-Vega headed to Frostburg State University (2024)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Dylan Dela-Vega, a versatile sprint free/breastroker from Stingrays Swimming in Georgia, will compete for Frostburg State University starting this fall. Dela-Vega recently graduated from Cherokee High School in Canton, GA.

I am very excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Frostburg State University. I would like to thank my family, coaches, friends, and Coach Matt and Coach Collin for supporting me along the way. Go Bobcats!

At the Georgia 7A State Championships, Dela-Vega swam to 2 personal bests, placing 24th in both the 100 free (50.01) and 100 breast (1:01.54). He additionally led off Cherokee’s 400 free relay in 50.14 and swam breaststroke for the 200 medley relay, splitting 27.65. Cherokee went on to place 18th out of 38 teams.

The following month, at the Central Divisional Championships, Dela-Vega PB’d in the 200 free while placing 6th. He also swam the 50 free in 23.84 and 100 breast in 1:01.81, placing 20th and 5th, respectively.

Best times SCY:

  • 50 free – 23.11
  • 100 free – 50.01
  • 200 free – 1:49.97
  • 100 breast – 1:01.54
  • 200 IM – 2:03.96

Frostburg State is a DII school, and a member of the Great Midwest – Mountain East Conference. At the 2024 Mountain East Championships, Frostburg finished in the runner up position with 1303 points, only behind Findlay University. Frostburg was led by Nathaniel Canapp, a distance freestyler took home a silver in the 1650 and 3 bronzes, in the 500 free, 1000 free, and 400 IM.

To qualify for a second swim at the 2023 Mountain East Championships, it took times of 1:15.77 in the 100 breast, 49.28 in the 100 free, and 1:53.21 in the 200 free. Dela-Vega will look to have a notable impact following his arrival on campus, as his 100 breast and 200 free are well under the scoring times.

Dela-Vega will be the first student athlete in his family. Outside of the pool, he is a black belt in taekwondo and plays the electric guitar.

Frostburg State University has additionally signed Nate Schwarz and Bradin Norris in their class of 2028. Schwarz, a Pennsylvanian, is a sprint free specialist while Norris, a Maryland native, swims fly and mid-distance freestyle.
