Josie Hood, a junior at Marian High School in Nebraska, has verbally committed to the University of Iowa.

Hood swam at the 2021 NSAA Swimming Championships, where she won the 100 free and placed 2nd in the 200 free. She also swims club for Greater Omaha Aquatics. At the 2021 Midwestern Long Course Championship, she placed 2nd in the 100-meter free, and 3rd in the 50-meter fly.
Hood has USA Swimming Futures cuts in the 50 free, 100 fly, and 200 IM. Her best short-course yards times are:
- 50 free: 23.97
- 100 free: 51.30
- 200 free: 1:49.98
- 100 fly: 57.06
- 200 IM: 2:05.92
The University of Iowa is a member of the Big Ten conference. At the 2021 Big Ten women’s championships, Iowa placed 8th out of 13 teams.
With Loving’s best times, she would rank third among 50 freestylers on Iowa’s team during the 2021-22 season. She would also rank 2nd in the 100 free and 1st in the 200 free. Currently, one of the fastest Iowa sprint freestylers is junior Kennedy Gilbertson. While Hood won’t have the opportunity to train with Gilbertson, she will be able to train with sophomore Madison Black, who has the 2nd-fastest 50 free on the team.
With Futures cuts in the 100 fly and 200 IM, though, Hood might be able to fill in as needed in stroke events, but Iowa has also recruited stroke specialists for the class of 2023. Hood joins fellow 2023 recruits butterflier and IMer Mallory Kell, breaststroker and IMer Olivia Swalley, and freestyler Jenna Kerr.
