Victoria Kaminskaya broke a Portuguese record in the 400 IM over the weekend, one of her three wins at the Coimbra Invitational held in Coimbra, Portugal.
Kaminskaya went 4:46.85 to take over two and a half seconds off the national mark she already held. The Pimpoes/Cimai swimmer also won the 200 IM (2:18.16) and 200 breast (2:32.49) in blowouts.
Four junior records fell over the course of the two-day meet as well. In the men’s version of that 400 IM where Kaminskaya cracked the national mark, Joao Alexandre Vital took down the Juvenile-A record, for athletes age 16. His 4:32.66 shaved a half-second off the mark set by Diogo Filipe Carvalho back in 2004.
Andre Goncalo Santos had a great weekend, sweeping the men’s breaststroke races, and he took down a junior mark in the longest distance. Santos, competing for Leixoes, went 2:19.18 to break the Junior-17 record of 2:19.82, set in 2009. Santos also won the 100 breast (1:04.98) and 50 breast (29.65) during the meet.
The final two junior records came from Tamila Hryhorivna Holub of Braga. She knocked off the Juvenile-A record (for girls age 15) with a 4:22.83, and topped the field by three seconds, and did the same in the 800 free with an 8:57.00.
Some other notable swimmers:
- Joana Patricia Pinto of Ginasio Vila Real took three sprint events, and also helped her team win three of the four relay events. Pinto went 27.04 to win the 50 free, 33.67 for the 50 breast and 57.98 for the 100 free title. The 400 free relay she led off also broke a meet record with a 3:58.82.
- Miguel Duarte Nascimento won a share of four titles over the course of the meet. He tied for the 50 free title with Portinado teammate and national record-holder Alexandre Escudier Agostinho. Both men were 22.96. Nasciento came back to win the 100 fly (54.61), 100 free (50.92) and 200 back (2:03.81).
- Sara Freitas Oliveira and Catia Raquel Martinheira each came one race away from a sweep of their strokes, Oliveira the women’s butterfly (28.14 in the 50, 1:00.56 in the 100) and Martinheiro the women’s backstroke (1:05.41 in the 100, 2:19.28 in the 200).
- Both of the men’s sprint backstrokes went to Nathan Keith Theodoris, who went 56.95 for the 100 title and 26.65 for the 50.
Also the pool in Porto is just terrible…one of the worst 50m pool in Portugal, but this invitational is the most historic one in Portugal. Sure deserved a better pool. I would’ve liked to see the brazilian federation swimming in Coimbra, because it’s one of the best 50m and one of the fastest in europe. In think there probably santana would have done 49 low easy…in Porto probably 50 point
But its always good to see world class swimmers come to Portugal 😉
