We had the opportunity to speak with St. Xavier freshman Grant House after the conclusion of the Ohio High School State Championships Saturday night.
Grant had a fantastic showing, winning three state titles – 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle and the 400 FR-R. His performance named him Co-Swimmer of the Meet on the boy’s side. In addition, he was a key piece of St. Xavier winning their 35 state title, and sixth in a row.
The most impressive swim of the night from House was his 200 freestyle, where he finished in 1:35.84, less than a second of the historic 1991 record of Joe Hudepohl (1:34.96). We received wind that House is faster than Hudepohl at his age, so we can’t wait to see what is in store for House in the future.
We spoke to House about the night, his special relationship with big brother Kyle (former swimmer at Purdue University) and what’s next for him in his swimming.
House swims at Countryside YMCA, under head coach Brad Isham. Isham is also the head coach of Cincinnati Ursuline Academy, who won their second consecutive title on the girls side.
