Katie Ledecky finished her last high school meet on Saturday at the DC Metro Champs meet where she broke one American Record and another National High School Record for Stone Ridge High School.
In her post-meet press conference, Ledecky talks a lot about what she’s going to miss most about high school swimming.
She hints that she, Stanford coach Greg Meehan, and her current NCAP coach Bruce Gemmell “are all on the same page,” but later says that she’s still trying to decide whether or not she’s going to defer a season to train for the Olympics before enrolling at Stanford.
She also says that she did rest and taper for this meet, which has been a hot topic of discussion about just how much focus she’s willing to put toward a high school, short course meet with the World Championshisp looming this summer.
Stanford is on the quarter system. Ledecky could try to take courses that would be relatively easy for her. She could enroll for the fall and the winter, and then take the spring quarter off.
You gotta love this kid!
Please defer a year, and keep your regime the same. The Olympics are the main event. Give them your best shot.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
