VIDEO: Michael Phelps Swims 44.91 in Exhibition Swim at American Short Course Championships

Michael Phelps has swum a 44.91 in the 100 yard fly in an exhibition swim at the 2015 American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas. While he’s still suspended by USA Swimming, so that swim won’t go into any official record books, that is Phelps’ lifetime best, and would have ranked him 10th on the all-time rankings in the event.

This follows a 1:40.84 that Phelps swam on Thursday in the 200 yard IM.

Bottom line when he is motivated mentally and trains, he can still be the best…even if on a more limited schedule. I think a lot of people are making a terrible mistake assuming he will be lucky to medal in Rio. This is the exact kind of motivation he needs to make another run. Enjoy!

I love the silence in this video. It’s like everybody is focused on one thing and following it without blinking. Amazing!

That’s exactly what I said in the 200 IM race video article. 🙂

I don’t get it? While this is very impressive and very promising for Michael Phelps………I don’t get WHY he needs to be swimming so fast right now? I hope he isn’t peaking now.

Kevin, I really don’t see your point. If you’re in shape, you will be able to swim fast. No need for MP to get beaten to a pulp to build his “aerobic base” back up now that he’s swimming 100’s along with the 200 IM and MAYBE the 2free. There’s no more 200 flys, no more 200 backs, no more 400 IMs. Thats 9 races less than he used to have if there’s prelims, semis, and finals at whatever LCM meets he’s gonna race. He’s racing maybe 1/4 as many races per meet than he used to.

He’s in good enough shape to go fast, and him going fast now is an indicator that he’s going to be ready… Read more »

I see what you are saying. I guess I am just so used to Phelps in his past when he was swimming slow as molasses up until when it truly counted.

I remember something Ryan Lochte once said when people were doubting him because he was swimming so “slow”. He said something to the effect that he actually is glad he is not swimming fast. If he were swimming fast that would mean he is not working hard enough in practice.

MP’s striking fear in his opponents’ hearts once again by clocking his 2nd fastest time ever in 100y free 42.17! love this.

landscape mode, anyone? 🙂
Nice swim, MP.
Funny to read some of the comments, as if superfish is supposed to be on top of his game at this point 🙂
I hope to see you at worlds this summer.

Kids, he swam yards, not LC meters. The times are good but they mean nothing if he doesn’t nail his one turn, and has no back half speed in the 100 fly.

Also, please do not shoot video in portrait format. Horizontal format is much better for swimming.
