VIDEO: MN State Boys: Humphrey Pruett “was calm” smashing 100 breast record, STA Tommy Weiss drops 5 seconds to win 200 free

VIDEO: Humphrey Pruett, Senior at Blake High school (Breck/Blake Swim Team), and Kenyon commit, smashed the 100 yard breaststroke state record with a 54.75, dropping two seconds off of his best of 56.9 in the process. The former class A record was 56.37 set by Matt Hoyland of St. Thomas, in 2008. The overall former Minnesota State Record was 55.44 set by Max Cartwright of Edina, in 2011.

In being asked how his coach responded, Humphrey said his coach, Breck/Blake Head Coach, Kris Rosenberg, gave him a big hug, first time Humphrey remembers him hugging a swimmer. Clearly, everyone was thrilled. 

He also swims Club with Edina Swim Club, with Head Coach, Jeff Rodriguez, and staff.

Interestingly, he has two younger brothers, Everett Pruett and Spencer Pruett who are also swimming fast.

In Class A, St. Thomas Academy won the overall team score. Breck/Blake finished second.

VIDEO: Tommy Weiss, Junior at St. Thomas Academy, MN Class A State winning team, St. Thomas Academy, coached by Head Coach, John Barnes, and coaching staff, dropped 5 seconds since last year, to win the 200 free, in 1:41.13. Additionally, he got 2nd in 100 butterfly with 50.46 , to Sean Donnelly of Chaska, who won with 50.22.

St. Thomas Academy also won and broke state records in their 200 Medley Relay in 1:34.09 (Sam Johanns, Willie Mayleben, Tommy Weiss, and Mac Brown).

and 400 freestyle relay with 3:07.2 (Hunter Nielsen, Tommy Weiss, Warren Sexson, and Sam Johanns).

Notably, Tommy also swims with Riptides Swim Team, whose Head Coach is Mike Parratto.

In Class AA, Eagan won the overall team points, with Minnetonka in 2nd, and Eden Prairie in 3rd. Minnetonka has sophomore, Sam Schilling (coached at Minnetonka High School by Head Coach, Dan Berve and staff) who went 1:38.33 in 200 free, to win the AA Division.

Other notable results: Joshua Withers of Eden Prairie (coached by Head Coach, Kelly Boston and staff) broke MN AA Record in 100 fly, with 48.88 (former record 49.17).
