Villanova Men Down BIG EAST Foe Providence In Short Course Meters

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Six event wins propelled the Wildcats to a 19-point, 112-93 victory over the Friars Saturday at the Taylor Natatorium.

Villanova swept both the 800 SC freestyle and 400 SC freestyle led by senior Charlie Hinckley and junior Aubrey Bowles. Over 800 SC meters, Hickley tapped the wall at 4:09.16 ahead of sophomore Patrick Casey (4:10.71) and freshman Justin Nowicki (4:11.98). Bowles bested the field by nearly four seconds clocking in at 2:05.56. Despite out reaching each other, sophomore Carson Brockette (2:09.26) and freshman Josh Seidman (2:09.90) finished three second ahead of the rest of the competition.

Continuing the ‘Cats dominant day, junior Henry Halloran took the top spot in the 200 SC breastroke. The Brookhaven, Ga. native finished in 2:23.09 just ahead of freshman Ben Tunila in 2:24.25. Sophomore Sam Randall and Tunila picked up important points for Villanova in the 200 SC freestyle. Randall and Tunila finished second and third in 1:57.46 and 1:57.54 respectfully.

Senior Nolan Danus picked up another win for the team in the 200 SC butterfly. The Morris Plains N.J. native tapped the wall in 2:05.80 ahead of Providence’s Aiden Puk in second in 2:06.59.

Other notable performances came by way of the Wildcat’s two relay teams. Bowles, Halloran, and sophomores Henry Gingrich and Mikey Thurk joined forces posting 1:47.25 in the 200 SC medley while the quartet of junior Patrick Hemingway, sophomore Gavin Jones, Randall and Hinckley closed out the afternoon for the Wildcats clocking in at 1:37.03 in the 200 SC freestyle relay.

Villanova is back in the pool next week as the women’s team travels to Piscataway, NJ to compete against Rutgers on January 20. The men’s team returns to action against West Virginia on January 27.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men’s swimming & diving team hosted BIG EAST foe Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 13 in dual meet action. The meet took place at Taylor Natatorium in Providence, R.I. The Wildcats claimed a 112-93 victory.

The Friars teamed up to claim victories in both relay events on the day, which included the 200-meter medley relay and 200-meter freestyle relay. Will Layden had another impressive day in the freestyle events, earning individual victories in the 50-free and 100-free.
