Virginia Breaststroker Susan Hynes Signs with Duke

Chesapeake, Virginia’s Susan Hynes, along with other athletes at Hickory High School, signed her letter of intent yesterday. Hynes has pledged to swim for Duke University’s class of 2019.

“I’m SO excited to be swimming with such an outstanding group of people like those at Duke University and I can’t wait to swim for coaches Dan, Jesse, and Dawn!”

Hynes was a four-time finalist at Virginia’s 2014 5A State Swimming & Diving Championships, placing second in both the 200 IM (2:05.12) and 100 breast (1:04.55), swimming breast on Hickory’s 200 medley relay (29.48) and anchoring the 400 free relay (52.30).

Hynes does her year-round swimming at Old Dominion Aquatic Club in Virginia Beach. Her best times over the last two seasons are:

100 Breast (1:02.40 SCY / 1:13.61 LCM)
200 Breast (2:15.47 SCY / 2:42.34 LCM)
200 IM (2:03.80 SCY / 2:25.63 LCM)
400 IM (4:26.03 SCY / 5:15.91 LCM)
100 Free (52.25 SCY / 59.32 LCM)
200 Free (1:51.64 SCY / 2:10.61 LCM)

Hynes’ 100 and 200 breast times would have scored in the C-final and B-final, respectively, at 2014 ACC Conference Championships. Duke lost both their big breaststroke scorers, Christine Wixted and Emily Barber, to graduation and will be eager to fill the hole.
