Virginia Gets Verbal Commitments from Legacies Kouvaris and Baldwin

The University of Virginia’s latest two commitments might be the newest members of the Cavaliers’ swim team, but both have lifelong ties to the program.

Gust Kouvaris has verbally committed to join the men’s team, and Peyton Baldwin has verbally committed to join the women’s team.

Kouvaris is the son of Virginia Class of 1998 swimmer Sudi Miller, who is in the University of Virginia Swimming Hall of Fame. She held the school record in the 100 yard fly at 53.99 for 21 years until it was finally broken in 2009, and still sits 10th on the program’s all-time list.

Her son Gust trains with the Birmingham-Bloomfield Atlantis club in Michigan and is a similar 100 fly/back swimmer as his mom, and adds very strong freestyle results for good measure.

In yards, Kouvaris’ best times:

  • 100 free – 47.33
  • 200 free – 1:37.91
  • 100 back – 49.21
  • 100 fly – 49.49

He placed 2nd at the 2014 Michigan Division I State Championship meet in the 100 fly and 3rd in the 100 back representing the runaway State Champions Brother Rice High School.

Peyton Baldwin Virginia

Peyton Baldwin has verbally committed to the Virginia Cavaliers, their second public commitment in the class of 2015.

The other commitment, Baldwin, comes from a full-on Cavalier family. Both of her parents graduated from UVA, and her brother is also a UVA student.

“I love the coaches and the team and I’m so excited to spend my next four years there!” Baldwin said on Sunday evening.

Baldwin is also a fantastic butterflier, with yards bests of 55.21 and 2:03.08. She adds to those swims a 1:58.72 in the 200 back, and a U.S. Open cut of 1:01.95 in the 100 long course meter fly races.

The high school seniors attends the Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News and swims for the Coast Guard Blue Dolphins.

She joins freestyle star Eryn Eddy as early commitments to the Virginia women’s program.

Peyton is a great role model for the younger swimmers on CGBD. We are all so proud of her and look forward to following her college career.
