The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete against Virginia Tech in a two-day meet beginning Friday (Jan. 12) at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center in Christiansburg, Va. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Cavaliers enter the meet after splitting a dual competition against Tennessee last Friday. The No. 11 Virginia women’s team (7-0) defeated the No. 7 Volunteers, 177-123, while the No. 21 men’s team (5-2) fell to No. 12 Tennessee 198-100.

Seniors Caitlin Cooper (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jennifer Marrkand (Westford, Mass.) pace the Cavaliers, ranking in the top five nationally in an event this season. Cooper ranks fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.86, while Marrkand ranks fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:53.55.

Tomorrow’s dual meet is the first of 2018 for the Hokies, who ended 2017 with a dual meet loss to North Carolina. The No. 25 Virginia Tech women’s team (5-1) dropped the meet 178.5-121.2, while the men’s team (4-1) lost 166-134.

The two schools met in a dual meet last year, as Virginia swept the home competition. The Virginia women defeated Virginia Tech 225-123, while the men topped the Hokies 199-154.
