Virginia Tech Lands All-Around Talent Joelle Vereb of 757Swim

The Virginia Tech H20kies have snagged a verbal commitment from 757Swim’s Joelle Vereb for their class of 2021.

The Jamestown High School senior is the defending Virginia 4A champion in the 100y fly (54.63) and 100y breast (1:05.15), and also led off Jamestown’s title-earning 200 free relay (23.55) and anchored their victorious 400 free relay (50.76). With those four swims, Vereb broke four state records, two of which were as a member of relays.

Top Times

  • 50 free – 23.37
  • 100 free – 50.40
  • 50 back – 25.94
  • 100 back – 55.40
  • 100 breast – 1:02.88
  • 100 fly – 53.79
  • 200 IM – 2:04.21

All of the preceding best times came just this past spring. An incredibly versatile sprinter, Vereb looks to have loads of potential in the 200 IM, though she could provide a strong split as any member of a medley relay.

In terms of ACC value, Vereb is fast enough for a B final scoring swim in the 100 fly, and is within tenths of what it’d take to score in the 100 breast C final at the ACC Champs. VT graduates Maggie Gruber, their only 100 fly scorer at ACCs last season, after the current season. As a butterflier and sprint option, Vereb will be a strong addition to the H20kies’ program.
