Visitation Girls Win Eighth Straight MSHSL Class A Title; Three Records Fall

2021 MSHSL Girls A Swim & Dive Championships

The Visitation High School girls came out on top for the eighth straight time and 12th overall at the 2021 MSHSL Class A Swim & Dive Championships, having placed first in every meet dating back to 2013. The meet was not held in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Visitation scored 385 points, winning two events on the way to the championship. Hutchinson High School took second with 254 points.

Junior Anna Farley won the 200 IM for Visitation in 2:04.39, with Hutchinson senior Hailey Farrell (2:04.78) close behind in second.

Also winning for Visitation was junior Ella Passe, who cleared the field by almost six seconds in the 500 free in 4:59.37.

There were also three new Class A state records broken, with two of them coming from Hutchinson senior Grace Hanson.

Hanson first won the 50 free in a time of 22.57, breaking the previous record of 22.79 that she previously held jointly with Lindsey Horejsi. Horejsi set the record in 2015 before Hanson matched it in 2019. Hanson’s time also narrowly missed the all-time Minnesota state record of 22.54 set by Rachel Wittmer in 2015.

Hanson followed up with another Class A record in the 100 free, clocking 49.56 to inch out the previous mark of 49.60 set by Visitation’s Abbie Dolan in 2014.

Hanson finished off her meet by leading off Hutchinson’s winning 400 free relay in 50.12, as the team clocked 3:30.74 to narrowly overtake Visitation (3:30.88).

The other record on the day came from Delano junior Emma Kern, who cranked out a new D2 record of 53.40 in the prelims. A University of Texas commit, Kern went on to win the final in 53.77.

Kern also won the 100 fly in 54.80, and led off Delano’s winning 200 free relay in a blazing 50 free time of 22.99.
