Vladimir Salnikov, formerly the best distance freestyler in the world and now president of the Russian Federation, was on hand to answer a few questions at the 2015 European Short Course Championships. In addition to talking about the technique of Italian distance freestyler Gregorio Paltrinieri, Salnikov had a lot to say about the Russian team.
He beamed about the young Russian sprinters (Evgeny Sedov, Andrey Arbuzov, Aleksandr Kliukin and Nikita Konovalov) who won the gold medal in the men’s 4×50 meter freestyle relay (you can read about the race here) and said, “They deserve it.”
Salnikov was further probed with the following:
Without [Vladimir] Morozov, without some of the key swimmers here? “We have some young swimmers who are coming up to be members of the National Team. I believe they have a good goal in front of them.”
Who is the one for us to watch for the future? “Watch them all.”
I thought it was a commentary on the recent doping scandal lol.
Me too. I don’t trust any of the Russian swimmers anymore. They shouldn’t be allowed to compete here or anywhere until their anti doping agency is re-accredited.
