LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women’s water polo team concluded its 2022 home season Sunday with a pair of Metro Atlantic Conference (MAAC) games, falling to Long Island University and St. Francis-Brooklyn in Clark King Pool.

Senior Kiara Anguiano had a hat trick with an assist for VMI. Makenna Moore had three assists while Genevieve Petrassi had six steals to go with a goal and an assist. Caragh Osborne also had a goal and an assist and Courtney Novotny, Gia Donatelli and Katelynn Riley also scored. Ellie Pickford had an assist and Osborne collected a pair of steals.
Alejandra Aranguren scored five goals and added an assist for LIU.
St. Francis-Brooklyn 14, VMI 11
VMI opened a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, but the visiting Terriers went on an 8-2 run to take a 10-6 lead late in the third quarter.
Novotny scored three times with an assist and two steals for VMI. Maddie Berry had two goals and an assist and Moore came through with two goals. Petrassi, Osborne and Shettleroe each had a goal and an assist and Petrassi and Shettleroe both had two steals.
Katie Lloyd made eight saves for VMI.
Sofia Kolovou had five goals for St. Francis-Brooklyn.
VMI wraps up the regular season next Saturday at La Salle College (10 a.m.) and Villanova University (2 p.m.).
