VMI Water Polo Hosts Salem Saturday To Open 2023 Season

Lexington, Va. – The VMI women’s water polo team opens the 2023 season Saturday with a home match in Clark King Pool against Salem University (W. Va.) at 10 a.m.

“We are looking forward to starting off our season at home this year and having the corps’ support,” said head coach Danielle Montenegro. “From there we travel to Macalester and then California for several competitions before we come back for conference play. We are excited to host all MAAC teams in April and have our first home games in the newly completed Goodall Aquatic Center.”

The Keydets’ return top scorer, senior Sydney Shettleroe. The Los Angeles native netted 62 goals with 20 assists in 2022 and drew 57 exclusions. Caragh Osborne was fourth on the team with 59 points and tied for second with 29 assists while Courtney Novotny is also back after posting 40 tallies last spring. Katie Lloyd is back in net after starting all 30 games a season ago.

VMI will compete in the Macalister University (Minn.) Invitational Feb. 17-19, with four matches scheduled.
