Vollmer 6th in 100m Fly Finals in Return to Racing

100m butterfly world record holder Dana Vollmer just finished her second swim since taking an extended break from the sport after the 2013 FINA World Championships.

After clocking a very respectable 1:00.05 for the 2nd seed in the 100 fly event at prelims of this weekend’s L.A. Invite, Vollmer wound up finishing 6th place overall in a time of 1:00.72.  Splits for her two races today are as follows:

prelims: 27.99/32.06 – 1:00.05

finals: 28.15/32.57 – 1:00.72

The 27-year old new mom went out just a tad slower this evening and returned to the wall a second behind her back half from the morning, indicating Vollmer does have some work to do.   But, Vollmer is realistic about her swims today and is keeping her performances in perspective in light of the minimal work she has put in since diving back in the pool.  Per her personal Twitter account, after prelims, Vollmer said, “1:00.05, I’ll take that! First full 100m butterfly in 2 years (not even in practice!).

Vollmer also followed that up with another tweet giving us insight into her positive state of mind at the meet.
