Vrooman Takes Home Third Gold At Canada Cup

Lindsay Vrooman of the Badger Swim Club had another great day at the Canada Cup in Montreal collecting a gold in the women’s 200 freestyle and a silver in the women’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay. Vrooman tops the list of multiple medalists at the meet having won three gold, two silver and one bronze heading into the final day of competition.

On day one she took the 800 freestyle, followed that up on day two by winning the 400 freestyle and on the third evening took gold in the women’s 200 freestyle posting a time of 2:00.17. Vrooman finished just ahead of Katerine Savard who touched in a time of 2:00.33, the two were never separated by more than 25 one-hundredths of a second.

Earlier in the evening Savard celebrated her first victory of the competition winning the women’s 50 butterfly in a time of 26.40. The three women who collected hardware in the event are very used to standing on the podium together, as Sandrine Mainville finished second in a time of 26.58 followed by Audrey Lacroix who touched in a time of 27.21.

Canadian two time Olympian Martha McCabe took the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:10.28. McCabe has been battling a shoulder injury throughout the year posted a season’s best, beating the time she recorded at the Canadian Trials. Bronwyn Pasloski finished second in a time of 1:11.21 followed by Marni Oldershaw who touched in a time of 1:11.87.

Richard Funk took the men’s 100 breaststroke finishing in a time of 1:01.83. Zach Hayden finished second in a time of 1:02.53 followed by Cody Miller who collected a bronze in a time of 1:03.75.

In the women’s 100 backstroke Kennedy Goss finished just ahead of Danielle Hanus. Goss took the event in a time of 1:02.35 followed by Hanus who touched in a time of 1:02.88. The were followed by Alexandra Deloof who finished in third recording a time of 1:03.38.

James Wells took the men’s 100 backstroke with ease winning the event in a time of 55.40. Matthew Meyers finished second posting a time of 57.16 followed by Daniel Kuiack touched in a time of 57.75.

In the men’s 50 butterfly Sean Fletcher took out Club Wolverine teammate Geoffrey Cheah. Fletcher won the event in a time of 24.33 beating Cheah by 17 one-hundredths of a second. Cameron Kidd collected the bronze finishing in a time of 24.80.

The men’s 200 freestyle was brother against brother as Aly Abdel-Khalik managed to get by brother Hassaan Abdel-Khalik. Aly finished in a time of 1:52.39 while Hassaan took the silver in a time of 1:52.64. Hochan Ryu finished third in a time of 1:53.23.

The winners of both 400 IM events destroyed the field. Marni Oldershaw took her second medal of the evening winning the event by over five seconds posting a time of 4:48.68. On the men’s side Tristan Cote won the event by almost 11 seconds hitting the wall in a time of 4:26.31.
