Wagner Sweeps LIU To Close Regular Season At Home

Brooklyn, NY – Over the weekend, the Wagner College men’s and women’s swim and dive teams faced off against LIU for the second time to conclude the regular season. The men’s team emerged victorious, defeating LIU 81-65, while the women’s team dominated with a 98-50 win.

For the women, freshman Mia Goodale had an outstanding performance, winning first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.93. Close behind her were freshmen Kaylin Lila, who finished in second place at 55.28, and Lovisa Ramsten, who took third with a time of 55.38. Goodale continued her strong showing by also winning the 500-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 5:12.85. Sophomore Rebekka Luoto placed second in that event, clocking in at 5:15.51.


In the 200-yard backstroke, freshman Gaya Savran claimed first place with a time of 1:54.34, while junior Lia Vendel won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.34. The women’s team also excelled in the relay events. In the 200-yard medley relay, graduate Allie D’Allegro, senior Shamiya Guirre, Luoto, and Ramsten teamed up to take first place with a time of 1:47.29. The quartet of D’Allegro, Lila, Luoto, and Goodale also secured a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing in 3:34.19.


On the men’s side, sophomore Adrian Andes Moreno had a standout performance, winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:10.05. Freshman Ben McLaughlin also had an impressive outing, taking first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:48.20. Junior Ruben Van Gool followed in second place (4:53.50), with Brayden Schaeffer finishing third in 4:54.86. In the 400-yard individual medley, freshman Florian Schumich took first place with a time of 4:13.90, followed by junior Russell Gavino in second (4:19.74) and sophomore Gabe Johnson in third (4:24.16).


The men’s team also saw strong performances in the butterfly and medley relay events. Sophomore Manuel Villalpando took second place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 51.66, while sophomore Jose Mancera finished third in 52.99. Graduate Enrico Mancardo finished second in the 200-yard medley relay, where he, along with sophomore Nikko Carrillo, Villalpando, and Andres Moreno, finished in second place with a time of 1:34.78. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, senior Robert Wagner, junior Alex Magditch, Villalpando, and Van Gool finished second with a time of 3:13.69.


Looking ahead, the Seahawks will be traveling to Ohio for the Northeast Conference competition, scheduled for Monday, February 17.
