17-year-old Wang Jianjiahe doubled up on the fourth day of the 2019 Chinese National Swimming Championships, winning the women’s 200 and 1500 freestyle.
Wang first won the 200 in a time of 1:58.24, edging out Qiu Yuhan (1:58.72), to come within 0.64 of her personal best time set at the 2018 Atlanta Pro Swim (1:57.60). She has, however, split as fast as 1:55.35 on a relay (2018 Asian Games).
Liu Xiohan rounded out the podium in 1:59.45, while Ye Shiwen notably placed fifth in a time of 2:00.08
She followed up by winning the 1500 free, the event she won bronze in at the World Championships in July, in a time of 16:19.71 over Hou Yawen (16:20.44). Her best stands at 15:46.69.
That gives the two-time Short Course World Champion three golds for the meet after winning the 400 free on day two.
Also picking up wins on the day was Yu Yingbiao in the men’s 200 fly and Yu Yiting in the women’s 200 IM.
Yu Yingbiao won in a time of 1:57.97, followed by Wang Zhou (1:58.89). Yu holds a best of 1:56.53 from 2016.
Yu Yiting, who turned 14 just days ago, cleared the 200 IM field by over two seconds in 2:12.69. She placed 11th at the recent Worlds in a best of 2:11.60.
SEMI-FINAL TOP QUALIFIERS
- Men’s 100 free – Hou Yujie, 49.68
- Women’s 200 fly – Zhang Yifan, 2:09.60
- Men’s 200 breast – Zhang Ruixan, 2:12.88
Note: Zhang Yufei, who won the 100 fly earlier and qualified first out of the women’s 200 fly prelims, made the final in fifth (2:12.16) out of the semis.
What did Ye Shiwen go in 200 free
Sorry, added it in now. She went 2:00.08 for fifth.
Oof
Her individual freestyle has always been inexplicably weak compared to her medley freestyle. Maybe she needs to sprint a 100 fly/bk/br in the warmup pool immediately before she races?
