84 degree pool temperatures, warmer than the 82 degree maximum temperature advised by USA Swimming for competition pool, has left several coaches angry about racing conditions at the pool in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2016 Futures meet.
The event, which is meant as a stepping-stone between Sectional Championships and Junior National Championships, is being hosted at 4 sites around the country, including one on the Georgia Tech campus.
A thermometer put into the pool shows the temperatures are well outside of the ideal for a championship meet, and several coaches have contacted SwimSwam with frustration over the situation.
Meet officials are considering running time trials for Friday nights finals on Saturday in order to give athletes an opportunity to swim under better conditions. Meet hosts are planning to lower the pool level several inches and refill it with cooler water in an attempt to bring temperatures down.
We swim there 4-5 times a season and it has never been that warm. My kids usually complain about how cold it is.
