Asheville, NC – The Warren Wilson swim complex was full of athletes and spectators as Wilson hosted Greensboro College’s Men and Women and Emory and Henry’s Women.
The Warren Wilson men defeated Greensboro with WWC tallying 99 and Greensboro College 66.
Senior, Jake Soled came in 1st place in the Men’s 100 yard freestyle with a time of 54.88.
Freshman, Nicholas Hoffman placed 1st in two events winning the Men’s 200 yard backstroke in a time of 2:11.29 and the Men’s 200 yard IM with a time of 2:20.78.
Curran Clarke, a sophomore, won 1st place in the Men’s 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.16 and also won 1st place in the Men’s 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:20.83.
Wilson men also won the Men’s 400 yard Medley Relay, swimmers include Nicholas Hoffman, Davis Jones, Edsel Paula, and Jake Soled, with a time of 4:15.14.
The women’s team lost to both Greensboro College in a score of 109-79 and Emory and Henry with a score of 155-45.
Junior, Sade Paula, came in 1st place in the Women’s 100 yard butterfly with a time of 42:49.
This was the final home swim meet of the season for Warren Wilson, with six seniors being recognized: Stanley Capp,Davis Jones (co-capt), Jacob Soled (co-capt), Alessia Faverio, Laetitia Mead (co-capt), and Emily Sprouse.

SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women’s Swimming Team (10-0, 5-0 ODAC) picked up a pair of wins in their final dual meet competition of the 2013-14 season Saturday morning at Warren Wilson College. The Wasps defeated the host Warren Wilson Owls, 155-45, and took down Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe, Greensboro College, by a 155-43 score.
Emory & Henry won all 11 events on the day and went 1-2 in nine of the races. The Wasps started things off in the 400-yard medley relay. Freshmen Liz Kleveno (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) and sophomores Taylor Guardalabene(Charlotte, N.C.) and Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) dominated the event winning by 32.8 seconds.
Sophomore Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) and freshman Jordan Greenburg (Cordova, Tenn.) finished first and second in the 1000-yard freestyle while freshman Jessica Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard freestyle. Shirey and freshman Kia Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.) went 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle while freshman Olivia Shumate (North Wilkesboro, N.C.) was fourth.
Freshman Allison Fowler (Morristown, Tenn.) put up back-to-back first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100-yard freestyle, Richardson, Brown and Hamilton swept the top three spots. Kleveno was first in the 200-yard backstroke while Greenburg and Powell finished third and fourth in the race.
Guardalabene and Shumate went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle while freshman Lauren Blakey (Davidson, N.C.) was fourth. The 200-yard breaststroke was dominated by Nolte and Kleveno as they finished first and second while sophomore Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.) was fourth in the event. Emory & Henry went 1-2 in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Fowler, Shirey, Brown and Richardson finishing first.
For the year, E&H won 72 of its 80 races, and won its dual meets by an average of 94 points. The closest margin of victory was 54 points against King (Tenn.) University (149-95) on Friday, November 15. Emory & Henry posted a 19-1 (10-1 ODAC) record over the past two seasons.
Emory & Henry will have next weekend off as it prepares for the 2014 ODAC Championships which will be held from Friday, February 7 to Sunday, February 9 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
