Washington Breast/IMer Kasey Calwell Commits to UC Santa Barbara

Camas, Washington senior Kasey Calwell has committed to the UCSB Gauchos for the 2015-16 season.

Swimming for Camas High School at the 2014 Washington High School 4A Boys’ Swim and Dive Championships, Calwell placed second in the 200 IM (1:54.23) and second in the 100 breast (58.50). He was the leadoff backstroke leg (25.00) on Camas’ 200 medley relay, and split a 47.0 on their 400 free relay.

Calwell trains with Columbia River Swim Team in Vancouver, Washington. He has a Winter Juniors cut in the 200 breast and his best times are:

100y breast: 58.50            100m breast: 1:07.16
200y breast: 2:08.32        200m breast: 2:27.09
200y IM: 1:54.23               200m IM: 2:11.15
400y IM: 4:03.76               400m IM: 4:42.93
100y free: 48.37                100m free: 55.04

Calwell will have a year to overlap with Andy Castilleja, who leads the Gauchos’ breaststroke contingent. The Gauchos move from the Pac-12 to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this year, so there should be plenty of opportunity to score at conference championships.
