An exciting two-day dual meet wrapped up in Nebraska between the University of Nebraska and Washington State. After the first day of competition, Washington State led Nebraska 75-73. On the second day, however, Washington State pulled ahead to beat Nebraska 214-158.
Day 1
Nebraksa started out well, winning the 400 medley relay in 3:49.17. They Nebraska B relay also finished second, adding on the points early in the meet.
In the first individual event, however, Kendra Griffin led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1650 freestyle with her time of 17:16.08. The distance swimmers tied it back up after a disqualification hurt Washington State early on.
Nebraska was back at it in the 50 freestyle, finishing first and second. Alex Bilunas got her hand on the wall to win with a time of 23.76.
Nebraska’s Jordan Ehly won the 200 IM in 2:06.98, touching ahead of Washington State’s Presley Wetterstrom in second at 2:07.80.
Washington State bounced back with a 1-2 finish in the 200 butterfly. Elise Locke reached in for the win at 2:03.56.
The back-and-forth action continued with a Nebraska victory in the 200 backstroke. Erin Oeltjen posted a 2:02.79 to win the event.
Again, Washington State battled back to claim the next event. Presley Wetterstrom won the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.73. They continued to win the next event as well. Washington State won the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:26.80.
Day 2
Washington State started day two with a two point lead over Nebraska. They started off the second day by winning the first three events. They won the 200 medley relay in 144:32, followed by Rachel Thompson‘s 1:52.92 to win the 200 freestyle, and Loree Olson‘s 57.03 to win the 100 backstroke.
Nebraska’s first event of the day came from Jordan Ehly in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.39. Her teammate, Taryn Collura, followed suit by winning the 100 butterfly in 56.39.
Washington State took the next three individual events, pulling away from Nebraska. Nicole Proulx posted a time of 51.73 to win the 100 freestyle. The next event was won by Ali Mund with a 50 backstroke time of 26.35. Frederikke Hall held off a large group of Huskers to win the 50 breaststroke by .01. Jordan Ehly was second at 30.67 for Nebraska, leading a 2-3-4 finish.
Rachel Thompson won her second event of the day, winning the 500 in 5:02.75 for Washington State. Her teammate, Haley Rose Love, followed the 500 with a win in the 50 buttrefly at 25.62. The last individual event of the day also went to Washington State. Presley Wetterstrom won the 400 IM in 4:27.98.
Washington State won the final event of the day, the 200 freestyle relay, with their time of 1:33.16.
