Watch 12 Year Old Ethan Dang Make a Junior National Cut in 200 Breaststroke – NAG Record Video

Swimming Video is courtesy of Dang Fam.

As reported by SwimSwam / Braden Keith:

In a late candidate for “most impressive age group swim of the year,” 12-year old Ethan Dang has not only annihilated his own 11-12 National Age Group Record in the 200 yard breaststroke, but he has qualified for the 2014 Winter Junior Nationals that begin next Wednesday.

Dang swam a 2:05.56 on Sunday evening at the 2014 Husky Invitational, which is raced at his home pool: the King County Aquatic Center. That’s the same pool where he will now have the opportunity to race at the 2014 Winter Junior National Championships in this 200 breaststroke next week – the time standard for that meet is a 2:05.89.

While Dang’s swim is technically after the entry deadline, USA Swimming allows times swum from December 3rd – December 7th to be used to enter the meet, though it cannot alter a swimmer’s seeding/entry time otherwise.

This kid could hit Gyurta’s otherworldly time if he continues like this

I never imagined I would fear a 12 year old the way I do now. Certainly not in the pool at least. The kid is a truly freak of nature; and I do mean that in the best way possible 🙂
It was incredible to have been in the pool with him for both of his phenomenal races this weekend.

He makes the typical 12 year old mistakes. Pullouts, looking on the turns, etc. Oh wait, he is a 12 year old! Guess he is suppose to make those mistakes! 🙂

The only part of his swim that makes him look like a 12 year old are his pull-outs. They are the only part of his race that isn’t phenomenal. They are still very good, but I know he came up awkwardly on a couple of them. This swim has blown my mind.

Josh – that was my first thought too. Other than pullouts, he looked like the best swimmer in the water.

Honestly I don’t think it was his pullouts, but actually his turns. I feel like if his turns were as good as his swimming he could drop even more time.

Totally agree. That was just an insane swim for a 12 year, let alone an 18 year.

Mcmflyguy – he was. I was at that meet and we were all commenting about how he was not letting the two in the middle get away. It was a very impressive swim along with his 100 Breast the night before
