Florida senior Caeleb Dressel opened up his racing at the 2018 SEC Swimming & Diving Championships with a 17.92 freestyle anchor on Florida’s winning 200 medley relay.
Dressel swam the fastest 50 relay split ever at last year’s NCAA Championship meet when he dropped a 17.71 to anchor Florida’s 200 medley there. Only his own swims and Vlad Morozov’s 17.86 have been faster than Dressel’s split on Wednesday.
While these splits are not tracked as official record, Dressel does hold 6 American Records – including the fastest 50 yard freestyle from a flat-start. He swam that 18.20 at the 2016 NCAA Championship meet.
Not to be overlooked – Tennessee’s Kyle Decourseysplit 18.14 to close the Volunteers’ 2nd-place relay, which was also under the old Meet Record.
When you split an 18.1 and still get overtaken [shrug emoji]
Are backstrokers allowed to put their feet over the touch pad like the Florida backstroker did?
Plateauing. Shame. Real shame.

is it sad that we aren’t surprised anymore…
1:22.94 is pretty good for the gators. I remember NCAA record is 1:21.54 held by Texas last year.
They can be faster. Switkowski was already under 20 in a dual meet. I’m excited to see what they can post at NCs.

This video is up already? You guys are not playing this year. ☺
kyle decoursey with the 18.1 ???
Geez! Imagine anchoring a relay, you are in the lead by.14 seconds, you split 18.14 and you not only lose, but by .08 seconds!
Also, if anybody wants to watch, Dressel did not have the fastest start…AND he did not push off from the front edge of the block, it was from the top of the block. This could go faster?!?
