On Thursday, Caeleb Dressel swam the fastest 50 free in history, marking an 18.20 i the individual final. Almost as quickly, the official Florida swimming & diving Twitter account had a video up.
For some context, the runner-up in this race was NC State’s Simonas Bilis in 18.84, and Alabama’s Kristian Gkolomeev was 3rd in 18.95. Dressel beet a pair of 18-second swims by half-a-body-length.

Dressel swam 18.20 in the individual 50 free final, and now owns the 6 fastest times in history. He’s rewritten the 50 free record book, almost literally, in a hurry, with 4 of the 5 best 50 yard freestyles in a single day on Thursday.
Dressels splits were 8.70/9.50.

Since Bobo Gigi has Olivia Smoliga, I’ll throw it out there and say that I think Caeleb Dressel is a cutie! 🙂
Well said Mr Josh Davis.
If Univ of Fla would switch to USRPT training he’d be going :16.5 by now!
Just as awesome as his technique is his attitude! Swimmers should aspire to not only swim like him but also “think” like him. Notice how he smiles and acknowledges the fans and his team. You can tell he his genuienly thankful and humble. Paraphrase of the postrace interview…”Just so thankful to have my family here, thankful for my coaches and my teammates.” That combo of humility and intensity is a joy to watch and must be a joy to coach and parent. Congrats to his family and team for encouraging that mindset. And congrats to Caeleb for having an ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE! That attitude will keep the pressure of your back, give you freedom to enjoy the moment and keep… Read more »

Any predictions on what Murphy’s 50 back split will be tomorrow? I say 20.5
By the time he graduates he’ll break 20
