WATCH Caeleb Dressel Swim 18.20 in the 50 Free (RACE VIDEO)

2016 MEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Thursday, Caeleb Dressel swam the fastest 50 free in history, marking an 18.20 i the individual final. Almost as quickly, the official Florida swimming & diving Twitter account had a video up.

For some context, the runner-up in this race was NC State’s Simonas Bilis in 18.84, and Alabama’s Kristian Gkolomeev was 3rd in 18.95. Dressel beet a pair of 18-second swims by half-a-body-length.

Florida sophomore Caeleb Dressel has beaten out his own records in the 50 yard free for the NCAA, American, and U.S. Open (fastest ever) Records in the event on Thursday evening at the 2016 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

Dressel swam 18.20 in the individual 50 free final, and now owns the 6 fastest times in history. He’s rewritten the 50 free record book, almost literally, in a hurry, with 4 of the 5 best 50 yard freestyles in a single day on Thursday.

Dressels splits were 8.70/9.50.

Just as awesome as his technique is his attitude! Swimmers should aspire to not only swim like him but also “think” like him. Notice how he smiles and acknowledges the fans and his team. You can tell he his genuienly thankful and humble. Paraphrase of the postrace interview…”Just so thankful to have my family here, thankful for my coaches and my teammates.” That combo of humility and intensity is a joy to watch and must be a joy to coach and parent.
