WATCH: Caeleb Dressel Talks to Press for First Time Since 2022 Worlds (FULL INTERVIEW)

2023 U.S. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

After a year of silence, 7x Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel spoke to the press at his second swim meet since the 2022 World Championships. Although he didn’t share his reason for departing early from Budapest last summer, Dressel was candid about the fact that he needed time away and took it.

He said he was conflicted by his performances in Indianapolis, on the one hand not being thrilled to be so far away from his personal bests, but on the other hand proud of his results for where he was at and the year he has had.

Your eyes are bright. How fast with just a few weeks of full practice. Welcome back and good luck. We still list meeting you at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Championship in the hallway late at night (and talking about braces/retainers) as a great occasion.

Probably the most likable person I’ve ever seen on our national team…which says a lot, because there have been some phenomenal people on those teams in years past (and present)

He so needed that mental break and I am so glad he figured out how to relax. His mind was on overdrive. And don’t be embarrassed about a C final at worlds! For some of us that will be the best we ever get!
He seems very happy. 🙂

He’s a class act. Was told first-hand he was upbeat, friendly and really positive as he got ready for the 100 Free C final.

Looking forward to his comeback. 🙌

He’s no less vulnerable than any of us, and has undoubtedly been under a type of pressure most of us cannot fathom – to not only do something well, but to be the best in the world, perhaps to be the best swimmer in the history of the sport in an event or two or three. Fans of the sport should appreciate what he has done,… Read more »
