MEN’S 100M BUTTERFLY – FINALS
2013 World Champion: Chad Le Clos, RSA – 51.06
World Record: 49.82 – Michael Phelps, USA – 2009
Championship Record: 49.82 – Michael Phelps, USA – 2009
GOLD: Chad Le Clos, RSA – 50.56
SILVER: Laszlo Cseh, HUN – 50.87
BRONZE: Joseph Schooling, SIN – 50.96
Chad Le Clos was on a mission, and it paid off. He broke the African record en route to winning the World title in the men’s 100 butterfly with his time of 50.56. Laszlo Cseh made history today, becoming the first man to ever medal in all three butterfly events at the same World Championships. He picked up the silver with a 50.87. Joseph Schooling also found his way on the podium, posting a new Asian record time of 50.96.
Tom Shields just missed the podium, finishing in fourth at 51.06. Mehdy Metella lowered his day-old French national record with a fifth place finish at 51.24.
Konrad Czerniak, Pawel Korzeniowski, and Li Zhuhao rounded out the final between 51.28 and 51.66.
In the end, this is good for the sport. I love this new rivalry between Phelps and le Clos.
King Chad, my man. Taking the win in style with the look around
The title made me laugh, but I do think it isn’t very respectful. He dissed Phelps, not your mom.
Ha, even Gold Medal Mel is getting into the trash talking. I guess he earned the right, with those predictions of 21.37 for Adrian, and 1:53.0 for MP.
Its great hype for the sport – the Phelps – Cech/leclos rivalry will be the lead for many stories leading into yhe olympics – NBC is in heaven. Lot of other great rivalries too – except for ledecky at 400 and above, virtually every event has 4-5 or more potential winners – and they span the globe.
Le Clos can keep his world title. At this point in Michael’s career, it’s about having the fastest times in the world. Michael wins again!
LOL now the “phans” are rationalizing, this is Psychology 101! hahaha By your reasoning going to Rio isn’t even a concern then? He might as well just stay at home go to some age group meet with smooth water and throw down a world’s best and call it a day? He has the WR 49.8, he has the fastest time in the world, no reason to compete I guess. Look at Heemskerk, if you don’t do it in the final having the world’s best time doesn’t matter.
Le Clos can keep his world title’ – that is big of you .
But I think it is the title or the record argument …….one can be beaten / one can’t take away a title . Even less – no one I ever heard say “. I had the world’s leading time in 1999′ “. Errh – so what
Gina, I still don’t understand 78.4% of what you write. But looking back, I could have been nicer. So though you don’t give a sh*t what I think, I offer my apologies.
T’was not your post I commented on . But it’s okay cause I got to write ‘ t’was ‘ & am thinking – what a beautiful word .
So Gina is the only one who makes sense on this thread………keep up the good work!
You can see him shout “I am number one!”… Not anymore :l
I love the title.
