Yesterday at the 2015 Ohio Long Course Age Group Championships, the Cincinnati Marlins downed the 13-14 National Age Group record in the boys 200 medley relay, taking off almost nine tenths from the old record held by Washington Township Swim Club from Indiana. The key legs for the Marlins were the front two, brothers Carson and Jake, who split 28.23 and 29.85, respectively, which was a collective 2.35 seconds faster than Washington Township’s first half. Matthew Sims (26.76) and Kevin Thibodeaux (25.76) rounded out the Marlins’ relay. From the video, each leg of this relay had an incredibly fast turnover rate, which is more commonly seen in younger swimmers. Carson Foster and Thibodeaux are both only 13.
With the exception of the back to breast exchange, it looked as though the fly and free legs, Sims and Thibodeaux, had rather safe starts, and perhaps the Marlins’ have a faster relay in them.
