In the above video, Florida Gulf Coast University recently-graduated Lani Cabrera (who also is a writer here at SwimSwam) talks about her Olympic journey.

She cycles through the sacrifices she’s made to make the Olympic team, her experience at FGCU, and her goals going into Rio.

“I don’t regret anything that I’ve missed or anything that I’ve had to give up,” she says.

Cabrera will swim the 400m free this week in Rio, coming in with an entry time of 4:25.82. She is the Barbados national record holder in the 200m free (2:06.38), the 400m free (4:23.31), the 800m free (9:00.09), the 1500m free (17:14.37), and the 400m IM (5:14.52).

Joining Cabrera as a representative of Barbados will be sprint freestyler Alex Sobers.

Below is the text of Lani’s SwimSwam author bio:

My name is Lani Cabrera and I’m from a small island in the Caribbean called Barbados. I am a senior on the swim team at Florida Gulf Coast University and I also swim for the Barbados National Team. I am studying Public Relations here at FGCU and I have always had a passion for writing. Few of my other passions include traveling the world, laying on the beach or just being surrounded by family and friends. I swim distance freestyle and enjoy watching all events in the pool. I’m very passionate about the sport of swimming and will compete at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
