WATCH: Hilary Caldwell Ready To Bring The Heat At Trials

2016 CANADIAN OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC TRIALS

World Championship bronze medallist Hilary Caldwell will be swimming the 100m backstroke this morning in hopes of making the championship final and qualifying for the Olympic team. More known as a 200 backstroker, Caldwell knows that the 100 might pose a threat.

“I definitely don’t have the speed that some of the girls have,” said Caldwell. “There’s some girls coming up that all of a sudden we have a couple girls under a minute, and I know that it’s not going to be an easy one for me to make.”

Caldwell is known for coming back strong on the second half of a race. If she’s able to take it out with the girls in the lead then she should have a fighting chance of making the team in the 100.

More suited for the 200, Caldwell is the Canadian record holder with her time 2:06.80 time from the 2013 World Championships. Caldwell is the heavy favourite to punch in her ticket to Rio in the 200m backstroke where she’s represented Canada internationally many times in her career.

Caldwell will be looking to dip under one-minute in her 100 backstroke today.
