Watch: Ian Thorpe’s Hilarious “Ad” For Pool Cleaning Service

Australian Telecommunications company Optus has released an “ad” in which Ian Thorpe poses as a small business owner with his own pool cleaning company named “Thorpedo Pool Cleaning”.

The commercial begins and in the first minute the viewer may be fooled into thinking that Thrope actually does own a pool service cleaning company from the official logo to the high production value of the advertisement. However, once the jokes start rolling it is obvious that Torpedo Pool Cleaning is a fake company and that there is a another message that the commercial is trying to convey.

The humorous commercial intends to inform audiences about a chance to win a flight, tickets, and hotel room for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio. The program is called Olympics for Small Business, and small businesses are encouraged to register to win one out of four trips to Rio worth $75,000.

Thorpe is a 9-time Olympic medalist, 5 of those gold. At the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Athens Thorpe won a gold in the 400 freestyle and set a world record in the event. He also won gold at these games in the 4×100 and 4×200 freestyle relays. In 2004 at the Athens Summer Olympic Games, Thorpe again won gold the 400 free and also added a gold in the 200 free to his repertoire.

If you are an Australian small business owner, you can enter the competition here

Very nice! I love it when star athletes have a good sense of humor about themselves

Australians are so obsessed with sports, like unaware slaves, that even when someone is acting like an idiot, but amiably, he is cheered. We really are pathetic and need to change our priorities.

This is awesome. I wish the BBC would hire Ian to do Olympic commentary in swimming and in other sports. He’s a natural.

You probably hated Spinal Tap, Shane and Highlander too. And that is not cool. Not cool at all.

Highlander? That’s reaching back a bit, but I like it. Now I want to use the quote ‘The sensation you feel is the Quickening’ on deck when everyone is beat red and sucking air. Add to Spinal Tap: AC/DC, Men at Work, Jet among others. Not big on Aussie beer tho..

I want to see @Gina Rhinestone’s ad! Maybe she will win a trip to Rio.

She would win this ad easy because most small business owners are just giraffes eating sundaes.

Back in 1937 the first small business award was given to a man from Sweden named Hans, he went on a safari and his sister had three cats.

Even simple thinking Americans can follow the rules to enter the competition, but probably won’t anyways because they are too busy buying automated washers and dryers.

I’ve already been to one olympics. I got a job on the coffee cart just outside of the Aquatic Centre & during finals no one came out of course so I could rush up the stairs & have a peek .

So not only was it free , II got paid.
