- Day 3 Finals Live Recap
Continuing a theme of the night, Indiana freshman Lilly King will be headed to the Rio Olympic Games after winning the women’s 100 breast. All four finals winners tonight were current college swimmers and first-time Olympians. After winning, King answered media questions about her background, the race, and how Indiana is doing at Trials.
On how her college training differed from how she’d trained in the past:
Yeah, I really just started training with — I finally had people to train with and race at practice and, so, basically right now I’m doing ten water workouts a week and three lifting sessions so that was way — almost double what I was doing before I got to college, and I have two breaststroke workouts a week, and I get to race with all the guys, and it’s just a great team atmosphere, so that’s kind of where I am right now.
On her fellow Indiana swimmers:
I literally dropped all my stuff on the floor and ran up to the stands to watch Cody swim, and he made it, and it was a huge relief for all of us….It was great, super excited for [Miranda Tucker] to make the final. It was just a great moment for IU Breaststroke and going into the future I think people’s eyes are going to be on us a little bit more than they have been in the past.
Sorry for being picky, but Tucker was not scratched in (Larson was). It has been amazing the misinformation from media through these trials. Can anyone get it to?
Congrats IU
She seems so humble
