Michael McBroom, 800m freestyle American Record holder (7:43.60) and 2013 World Championship silver medalist, is ontrack to be a threat for gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. For now, McBroom is focused on the 2014 Short Course World Championships in Doha, his sights set on claiming more swim history, an american record or even a world record. That’s putting it out there, but according to him, “It’s short course meters. Anything is possible, and I’ve got nothing to lose.
I’ve always been a McBroom fan, especially after his breakout 2013 year, but last Friday, I became a McBroom believer. Texas Longhorns Head Coach Eddie Reese and Associate Head Coach Kris Kubik invited me down to watch a practice. That’s when I captured the McBroom’s 2000 free for time…. Had to pick my jaw up off the deck after witnessing it. See the video above and judge for yourself. See the entire UT Test Set here, aka The Eddie Reese Invite.
Many thanks to McBroom for the interview, and thanks to the Longhorns for inviting SwimSwam down to film.
