Michael Phelps was other-worldly in the championship final of the men’s 200 butterfly at U.S. National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday night. After a very strong 1:55.15 in prelims, Phelps came back with 1:52.94 at night, posting the fastest time in the world this year, and his best time since 2009.
His splits were 25.14 – 28.26 – 29.59 – 29.95 = 1:52.94
As a comparison, at the 2015 FINA World Championships, Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh won the title with 1:53.48, which at that point was the world’s fastest.
Cseh’s splits were 25.18 – 29.03 – 29.33 – 29.94 = 1:53.48
Can’t Beat What You Can’t Catch!!
Getting It Out and Making A Statement!!!
In the US we have a legal system for punishing people that break the law. Which he was punished by the US legal system for his poor judgement.
And I can’t still believe that Bein Sports France which has bought swimming TV rights of Eurosport France, will broadcast live the last 3 days of the meet the next 3 nights here in France!
Cool for the French swim fans.
I hope they will show a replay of the 200 fly. French swim fans prefer watch MP swim a 200 fly rather than a 200 breast on the last day of the meet.
In USA you have to wait for next Sunday on NBC to have a little replay of the 3 first days and Sunday, August 16 to watch on NBC some pictures of the last 2 days! ๐

And to think that it was even not broadcasted live on any American TV sports channel…. ๐
Of course they prefer show live a 3-hour boring baseball match with an action of 4 seconds every 30 minutes.
That race should have been live on NBC, ESPN and even CNN!
It’s a shame!
Congrets Michael this is a Brasilian was a swimmer in those years 70-80’s and I still love swim for life
Yes Christmas gift in August.
Seriously, When MP announced his comeback in 2014, I would have never thought one second I would watch him swim again a 200 fly in 1.52.
But of course, I’m not a specialist and I don’t have the 50-year plus experience of some experts here on swimswam.
Bobo, there is no need to put yourself up on a cross. Just tone down being a “Debbie Downer” and let the other fans enjoy the excitement of playing the “what if” game. If American football fans can have their Fantasy Football League, then let the swimming fans have their own Swimming Fantasy League. It is normal in the excitement of great performances to speculate or theorize how great a swimmer would have performed at a different location against a different group of swimmers in a different setting in different conditions. We are having fun. That is all there is to it.
Honestly this video is like swimming Christmas.
MP — dopster for sure. Hes definitely on some kind of drug. I guess well find out sooner or later.
