Watch: New Indiana State Aquatic Center Grand Opening

Indiana State University has opened up their new Vigo County Aquatic Center in preparation for their inaugural season starting up this fall. In the video, head coach Matt Leach talks about his excitement for the new facility and the upcoming season. The pool is 50 meters by 25 yards, with 22 short course lanes and two movable bulkheads.

The new facility is quite a step up from the old one, a 6-lane, 25-yard indoor pool that was “not certified for competition,” according to the university athletic director.

The pool will also serve as the home aquatic center for Terra Haute’s three local high schools.

In the video, Leach expresses his hope that Indiana State will be able to host the Missouri Valley conference championship one day.

The video serves as the second installment of a series giving an inside glimpse into the building of a new program, a partnership between the Indiana State Sycamores and SwimSwam. You can watch the first video here to hear more from Coach Leach.

The team also recently announced their first batch of recruits, including Emily Boomershine, Cierra Campbell, Allie Engstrom, Mykenzie Kostka, Jacquie Price, Emily Ratliff, Cori Taylor, Zoe Williams, and Danielle Yagelski.

Their home facility is a six-lane 25-yarder from when the school had a team in the 60s and 70s. I believe there is another video that was posted on swimswam a couple of months ago in that facility. In this video, you can see that the high schools each have a corner with their names painted, but Indiana State is not represented as it is not actually their facility. The high schools have priority at this pool, and it is definitely not called the Indiana State Aquatic Center. As you can see on… Read more »

How much more embarrassing can this get for neighboring Illinois who has to hold their championship meets in Wisconsin or Indiana? As Indiana builds more beautiful LCM pools Illinois is closing theirs. Shameful. . .
