Jeanette Ottesen took down Sarah Sjostrom in the women’s 100m fly final 56.51 to 56.52. The two touched almost identically, but it was Ottesen winning by a fraction of a second.

Rikke Pedersen was under 2:20 again in the 200m breaststroke to secure a win here in Berlin with a swift time of 2:19.84. She was over two body-lengths ahead of the rest of the field at the touch.

Florent Manaudou of France was the only swimmer under 48 seconds in the 100m freestyle final as he took home gold in the blue ribbon event.

It’s a tactical mistake by Sjoestrom.
For someone who swam 24.4 in the 50 fly WHY OH WHY she split 26.70 in the 100?? That’s too slow first 50.
It’s the same case with Cate Campbell. Cate split 24.8 and 25.00 to get to 52.3
and then this year she experimented swimming first 50 slower (25.3) and what did she get? 52.6 or 52.7
Both Cate and Sarah needs to keep blasting that first 50 if they want to break respective WRs.
A few thoughts:
1. Peaty’s celebration after his WR was fantastic! I had to laugh out loud when he tried to climb up on the laneline and flopped off! Classic!
2. Sjosrom was a half body length behind Otteson after the start! That’s amazing for a woman that good at the 50 fly; maybe she’s human after all?
3. It looked like Manaudou was racing a 50 free (wow, can that guy start or what?!) with a turn tacked on, because he seemed to be dying about 20 meters from the finish.
