Swimming last week at the Akron, Ohio Sectional Championships, 16-year old Regan Smith from the Riptide Swim Team in Minnesota swam 3 15-16 National Age Group Record-breaking times in 2 different events. She eventually settled at 50.84 in the 100 yard back and 1:48.30 in the 200 yard back, the latter of which pushed her to 4th in the event all-time for swimmers of any age.

Smith, a member of the 2017-2018 USA Swimming National Team, finished 8th at the 2017 World Championships in the 200 meter back.
Watch videos of her two finals swims below:
1:48.30, 200 Yard Back
50.84, 100 Yard Back
What’s amazing is she only goes about half way under water in the 100, and maybe 10 yards in the 200. She just seems to keep getting faster the longer she is on top of the water.
The future of US backstrokers looks very promising: Regan Smith & Destin Lasco just broke 15-16 Girls and Boys NAGs respectively all in the past two weeks.
I timed it myself…. something is wrong with the timing system. I got 1:48.34. Can I get an investigation into this? ??? I’m just playing
Cleanest backstroke in the worlds imo
It is the most beautiful backstroke I’ve seen since Egerszegi.
insert Ryosuke Irie comparison here…
The USA has had so many great backstrokers over the years.
And then another one like Regan comes along. Her stroke and her turns are flawless.
Wow- her 200 is faster than Missy’s 17-18 record!
Missy has never been a great short course swimmer compared to long course.
Regan’s turns and underwaters are much better.
Talking about Missy, here’s a 14-minute interview from last January.
